ABC Wednesday {"K" is for Katie}

I have a most special friend.  Her name is Katie.  She is 16 years old and has Downs Syndrome.  I have "known" Katie for many years, watched her grow and mature and change into a most beautiful young lady.  Last week, I finally had the opportunity to meet her face to face.  It was the highlight of my weekend.

You should be jealous.

Thanks Katie, for being my most beautiful and special friend!

ABC Wednesday "I" is for {Inspiration}...

Pinterest has once again been an INSPIRING website at our house...

New Curtains. 

And delicious Cucumber Cups stuffed with sushi rice, crab and avocado.  

And lastly, this may not have been Pinterest INSPIRED, but our homemade french fries were definitely INSPIRED by this ginormous red potato we (as in the super cute husband) dug up the other day.    

Gosh, I love Pinterest.
Almost as much as homemade fries.

Who am I kidding?
There is NOTHING better than homemade fries.
Not even Pinterest.
It's definitely a close second, though.

"E" is for Epic Experiences to the East

School starts in two weeks. We haven't had one epic experience all summer, so I decided it was time to load up the kids and head to the east. Two hours to the east, to be exact.

Past the dam...

Around the river, ten miles down a dirt road...
Past the big rock...
And the burnt forest...
Oh, look, a deer...
We're getting closer...
Less than a mile now...
Ah, there it is...
Under the beautiful green hills...
Lets go for a short hike...
And cross the creek...
And stop to smell the flowers...
You'll find the hot springs flowing right out of the mountain, captured in a small pool, and drains freely out the other side back into the river below...
If you are lucky, the pool looks like this (picture from June 2010)
And if you're not lucky, it will be packed to the gills with a million little screaming kids and a crazy moth saving English woman wearing a rather interesting swim suit that allows you all to see a lot more of her parts than I want, say, my teenage son and husband to be seeing. If you know what I mean. As my teenage daughter said... "awkward".
A giant scoop of square ice cream to save what's left of the day...
Especially when you get home and discover in your haste to leave the excitement of the pool, you have left all the wet swimsuits sitting on the bench next to the naked lady in the dressing room. Just epic.

"D" is for Daughters...

She's daring, devious, dreaming, sometimes even disgusting.

She's delightful, deranged, determined, and oh so dramatic.

She's definitely not drab, dull, demonic, or dumb.

Easily distracted? Quite so.

A little dense? We don't call her "air-logical" for nothing.

But I am definitely a lucky mom to have spent the last 15 years with the most delightful daughter a mom could ask for.
