Top ten of 2012

Last year, I participated (somewhat) in a photo a day challenge.  Talk about a challenge.  I think I took about 325 out of the 366 photos.  So, while I didn't complete the challenge, I did give it a good effort.

The new year brought one more challenge, picking out your top ten pictures from the previous years.  Looking through the best of the best of everyone else, I was in awe.  There is some serious talent out there, even when using just an iPhone.

But as I went through my top ten, I discovered it wasn't the best shot that stuck out to me, it was the purpose behind the picture.

So here's my top 10...

1.  School had started.  We were learning about harvest moons and how they are said to be the biggest and brightest moons of the whole year.  I agreed.  I planned my shot, took my picture, and then put my camera away for the next month and called it a year (though I still took a few pictures here and there, but only with my phone).

2.  My family thinks I'm crazy that when we go to the golf course, they all take their clubs and I take my camera.  Capturing a ball in motion is my ultimate goal in life.  And this one won me a blue ribbon at the fair.

3.  Arilee turned 16.  When Justin moved out, Ashlee moved into his room and both the girls got bedroom makeovers.  She chose this really bright shade of blue and the first thing she did when it was done was shut the door with the Cricut in tow.  An hour later, she revealed her motto in life.  It's so her.  She is awesome.

4.  Mom turned 83 years old in 2012.  Dad took the entire family and then some out to dinner at Leo's Place in Idaho Falls, bought us all dinner and gave all the girls a rose.  With mom's health the way it is, we hope that wasn't her last birthday we get to celebrate with her (although it's only a few weeks away, so I'm thinking she's got at least one more in her).
5.  Spring.  There is nothing I love more than laying in the grass on a warm spring day, except maybe looking up and seeing my beautiful children.
6.   I had only had my iPhone a couple of weeks when my sisters and I traveled to Mississippi for a week.  After taking this picture with my iPhone at the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, I said, WOW, this phone is so cool.

7.  I had this hair brained idea to take a whole series of photos using a mirror.  I called them "reflections".  Some of them turned out really well, too.  I think the best part was the time I put into coming up with ideas and executing them, even if the picture didn't turn out as I had hoped.  Made me feel alive!

8.  My baby girl and those eyes.  So serious.  She turned 12 this year and couldn't WAIT to be out of primary for good.  Of course, three days before her birthday, she just had to go and break her arm.

9.  Justin graduated.  This picture was terrible.  The lighting was bad, my white balance was all off, all my settings were screwed up, but the picture says a thousand words.  We couldn't be prouder of him.
10.  Just more memories of our trip to Mississippi.  I cherish these little get aways with my sisters.  They are all a lot older than me, grandma's or hoping to be one soon, but they are still some of my favorite people to spend time with and always will be.  And when something happens to one, we all feel the heartache.  So it has been this past week, which made this picture one of the favorites of the year.  I love my sisters!

{365} September 23-29

September 23
About all that's left are a few random marigolds.
September 24
Aw... found this in a box at school.  Aw...
September 25
Waiting.
The problem with the middle school is that unless you get there half an hour before school lets out, you can't park anywhere.  So I go early.  And I wait.  And wait.  And wait some more.
September 26
One of the super cool new features of the IOS6 (operating system) on my iPhone.
Panorama.
September 27
Happy Birthday husband.
Here... have a cat.
September 28
It's autumntime.
I pretty much ignored the weeds in my flower bed this year,
but I did enjoy every second of bloom time.
September 29
They say the harvest moon is bigger and brighter than all the other moons.
I think they might be right.

And that's all she wrote.

Like permanently.

I've run out of ideas.

I've run out of time.

I haven't taken a single picture since this day.

I'm tired of taking a picture a day.

There is only three months left, I could probably do it, just to say I actually did it,
but life is more important right now.

September 3
Time to put the pool away.
September 4
The horse count around here dropped to two on August 31 when old Dixie died.
Luckily, "Three" is more than happy to eat her share of carrots.
September 5
First day of school.
September 6
The rest of her birthday present finally came in the mail.
Now if we could only talk her into moving it out of the living room and into her bedroom.
September 7
Finally started sewing the girls quilts.
Someday I'll get them done and post about it.
September 8
Happy Birthday to me!
September 9
It beats watching football.
September 10
They finally gave me keys to the offices at work.
September 11

September 13
Ha.  No kidding?
September 14
Weeds, weeds everywhere.  If only they weren't as noxious as they are pretty.
That made more sense in my head.
September 15
Homecoming dance.
September 16
It just isn't a Sunday nap without this ratty OLD blanket.  I'm talking 25+ years old.
September 17
One of my many "back to school" projects.
Happy Birthday to my 44 students.
September 18
Twistables.
Because I'm the cool teacher.
September 19
Smoky sunrise through the front door.
September 20
15 days since school started and I've put how many miles on my car?
September 21
Guess who FINALLY got a hole in one?
It wasn't me.
But I'm sure proud of my super cute husband!
September 22
This is about all there is left.

{365} - August 19 - September 2

I admit, it was a pretty pathetic couple of weeks for taking pictures.
I was busy mourning the impending departure of my son for college.

August 19
The pictures I entered into the fair.
5 blues and 2 reds.
$19.
Not too shabby.
August 20
We played our last round of Balderdash for awhile.
I won.
Or maybe I lost.
I can't remember now.
August 21 & 22
This counts as two pictures.
I cried all day on the 22nd.
ALL day.
I couldn't bear to even pick up my camera.
Then he left at 6 a.m. on the 23rd for Boise.
Once he was gone, I was just fine.
Weird.
August 23
After the boy left, we got to work cleaning out his room so Ashlee could move in.
She chose a lovely shade of grey called Pewter something or another for three walls
and the fourth wall was something like "spring meadow"... aka... lime green.
It's pretty cool.
August 24
Justin moved into what was Cody's office, but is now the "whatever doesn't have a home" room.
It is now home to his mattress (he needs a new bed frame) and odds and ends.  He got rid of most of his toys, but kept a few around just for old times sake.
August 25
Our sunflowers are gigantic.   Like, insanely huge.  Like Jack and the beanstalk huge.
August 26
The husband was laying on the grass and said, "you should take a picture looking up this branch."
So I did.
August 27
She's all moved in and the first thing she does is put up a "do not disturb" sign.  What does she think this is?  A hotel?  Oh wait... it's Ashlee.  Of course, she does.
August 28
And then she broke her arm.
More about that in a post further down.
Poor baby girl.
August 29
So many tomatoes.
Holy cow.
August 30
Arilee painted her room "mylanta bottle blue" or "Sea Life" if you want to be specific.
Then she put up this quote, because she is SO stinking awesome.
August 31
All she wanted for her birthday was a frog.
And a frog she got.
Welcome to the family, Kermit.
September 1
We celebrated a day late so her brother could be here for the party.
Her cake was pretty simple as I had about five minutes to make it and she was giving orders instead of doing it herself like we usually do.  It's been a long couple of days with this demanding child... because in case you forgot... she broke her arm!
September 2
The boy happens to live like 12 steps from the tennis courts at BSU.  He went out and played the other day and it turns out... he's not very good.  So his dad took him to the courts to learn him a few things.  I think the only thing that was really taught was that... Ashlee has a broken arm and it's not FAIR that we get to do stuff  and she doesn't.  That and camera's work better with a memory card in them.  Thank goodness for iPhones.
