A good thing to remember, and a better thing to do...

Always join a construction gang and never a wrecking crew. (Do you know how many times I gave that line as my spiritual "thought" in high school seminary?)

Cuz around here, the wrecking crew works extra hard! Especially this weekend.

While the wrecking crew worked, I played cameraman/photoshop girl.

Here's the husband taking apart the gardening shed that blew away last spring, then blew over again, and again, eventually ending up in the round corral out back.
(here's the before shot taken a few weeks ago)
This is the father in law redoing the wiring from the light pole to the barns. When the inspectors came out to inspect the wiring on the house, they noticed his funky concoction he had going on out back and made him replace it all.

Can you tell he is standing on the VERY tops of the ladder? This was before he shimmied up the pole another 6".

Notice how HIGH he is? OY! I couldn't watch.
There was time for a little golf break...
And a photography session with "trouble" from next door, who isn't keen to having her picture taken... ever... followed up by a photoshop lesson or two... out of 30+ pictures, this is the only one that turned out...

Most of them came out more like this one... which was her way of saying "MOM, the mean lady with the camera won't leave me alone!" Then it was back to work. Turns out trimming trees is good for sore backs... at the time... today me thinks I need to go trim more trees as it's aching a bit again, but this weekend it was feeling just dandy!

This little rock pile used to be FULL of plum and russian olive tree runners as well as wild rose and gooseberry bushes. Not anymore. Now, thanks to me, it's all in that pile behind it.

Oh yeah, while we did this, the father in law and the boy started taking apart the back deck. The mother in law has even started thinking about maybe packing something.
When they were bored of that project, the moved over to finish up the mess I started, this time using a log chain and the pickup to pull out the remaining trees.
We did find a perfectly sized elm and plum tree that is just right for transplanting that we left. Now I just need to figure out where I want them. My inlaws also have an apricot tree they want to give me. Oh boy! Just what I needed was MORE TREES!
I sure made a mess... but the boy helped...
Then came the project of the day, the one we hadn't intended on starting. When the power company came last fall to trim the trees growing into the power lines, they informed us that our tree house was a hazard to ones health. Yeah... we know. No, I mean, really. It's in a tree that's growing into the power lines. To which I replied: "Have you looked at that thing? It's barely standing! Do you think I will even let my kids IN that tree house?" Uh, maybe not. But it still needs to go, pronto! Okey dokey.
So the husband braved climbing into the barely standing tree house... seriously, I'm surprised a stiff wind hadn't blown it over by now.

The girls... they got sunburned. Apparently, I've forgotten that just because it's only 50 degrees outside, one can still get burnt to a crisp, and they did! They hid in the back of the truck and worried about dad who was surely going to be kilt when that tree house collapses.

It's way sturdier than we gave it credit for... the little house on top was also full of wasp and yellow jacket nests, as well as a grocery store for the local squirrels... so many nuts and seeds!
But, with the help of the funky saw I can't remember the name of, and some man power, she finally toppled to the ground.
The next four weeks will pretty much be a carbon copy of this weekend. Lucky for me, I get to photograph it all. Keeps me from having to help that way.

P.S. Happy Birthday to my sister, #3!

When you are done come work on my yard. I promise to not make you trim any tall trees, or tear down any treehouses.

You are getting super skilled with that photoshop!

I actually don't like yardwork. I thought I would but was surprised after owning a home, how I wished it could just keep itself up. I think there will be crews working for me in my future!:)

This post just dredged up all sorts of memories, growing up with men in Wranglers doing their own construction and destruction and wiring and jerry-rigging. Huge open spaces with equally huge amounts of work.

I was not born to join in, however. As a child I did my best to grab kitchen duty, and as an adult I hold out hope that the weeds will spontaneously combust because I can't afford a gardener. Wanna come trim my trees when you're done?

That ladder reminded me of the times my dh has climbed up to the very top rung - where you're NOT supposed to climb! Yikes!!

At least you're getting it all cleaned out!!

Oh my! WAY too much manual labor. We barely have a front yard and I don't even pull weeds. I think if anything, I would be the camera girl like you. If that....

Actaully, the reality is that I would be stressing about the laundry and mess in the house that would all produce. Think I'm a little uptight? Yeah.

uh - love the tweaking you did with the pictures, and did the treehouse fall on your sexy FIL, cause he's GONE in that last picture? LOL!

I have probably seen a hundred pictures of your yard and I still can't get my orientation - you have a HUGE flippin yard! And now it's a huge clean flippin yard!

You are much more fun to read and less full of yourself than PW, and your husband and kids are hunkier too, no matter what she dithers about. And your photoshop skillz are just as good. Not that she's not all that, but you are more!

That's a lot of work for one weekend. I stayed in bed from 12-6 on Sunday reading a book. But it was a book about hard work so does that count for anything?
