The secrets to all my skirting abilities...

One day, my 14 year old and I were walking through Hollister and we saw the cutest little skirts. "Little" being the optimum word there. I looked at her and said, dude, I could totally make one of those and she was like, really, and I said, really and she got all sorts of excited and told her super cute little friend Abbs that I was totally going to make some and I was like... really? Serious? You want me to make RUFFLES?

I don't do ruffles. ACK! What was I thinking???

So fast forward an hour or so and I was on Pinterest, which is my new favorite addiction and I came across a ruffle tutorial and I was like, no way, that's so freaking easy, why do other places make it look so hard? So I got out my scraps of material and pushed one through the sewing machine just like it said to do, and I'll be danged if I didn't have a ruffle come out the other side. That was sa-lick!!! Then I found this tutorial and this tutorial and this tutorial, plus I'm sure several I didn't pin, on how to put the skirt together... and about five hours later, I had a super cute little black and red skirt for the Ish and I was in the car headed to the fabric store to see what cute fabrics I could make into a skirt next.

And of course, they just had to have a skirt on display at the store with the ruffles at the bottom and a cute little pin attached and I said, yep, that's what I'm making right there.

So I came home, made a red and blue one for the middle child and the yellow and grey one for me. Then the super cute little friend Abbs said, OH, so cute, will you make me one, too??? Of course, we love the Abbs around here for when she is around, the kids are beyond angelic and I'm this close to cleaning out the cat room and moving her in permanently. Anything for the Abbs... now I just need to finish it.

I'm still learning how to make them, what works and what doesn't. I'm sure it would be much easier if I ever used a pattern, but it's not really my thing. I prefer the trial and error via Pinterest tutorials method. A dozen or so more and I'll have it all figured out and they will have something newer and cuter that I need to try. A girl can not have too many skirts. Am I right, or am I right?
