Taking the scenic route...

Yesterday, I decided to stow away in the passenger side of dh's company car for a lunch date. It ended up taking us approximately five hours to drive 15 miles away, as we took the slightly scenic route through Jackson Hole.
We had intended to spend a little time in Jackson, taking in the winter scenery and enjoying a nice lunch, but alas, my kids have been asking me if we are planning to go to Hawaii again this year for spring break again (I wish), and combine that with road signs like this:
I was having some gnarly flashbacks to the Hana Highway in Maui and feeling a tad green in the gills.
By the time we finally arrived after creeping along the snow covered Jackson pass, I was ready to turn around and go home. Dh quickly did his work while I sat in the car and read my latest book. I was most surprised (and depressed) to see that there is more snow in my front yard than in Jackson!
Elk refuge...

I was feeling better by the time we reached the border for home (maybe it was the air in Wyoming... I don't have enough "tree hugger" in me to truly appreciate the atmosphere? Or the fact that we were one of ten people who don't drive a Subaru Outback? Or the fact that every place you go into smells like a coffee can threw up?) so we stopped at the Hard Hat Cafe for a prime rib sandwich... just what one needs after a long drive!

And to think the best scenery was just up the road the whole time ... who needs Jackson when I've got this?
