I am not above blackmail.... or am I?

The other day, the girls caught me taking a picture of their extremely messy bedroom. I told the girl that she had the long weekend to clean it up or I was posting it on Facebook.

Oh, the weeping and the wailing and the promises that ensued were like no other...

Three days later... it looks like this...

I'm not overly sure where I went wrong with these two girls, but they give a whole new meaning to the word "frustrating". If I wasn't a working mom, it would get a major mom overhaul, leaving their room with nothing but a bed and a few changes of clothes. That's how frustrated I am.

But, MEAN, I am not. I am all talk. I will not post this picture on Facebook for all the world to see. Instead I am blogging it for all the world to see.

What do you do to get your kids to clean up their rooms and keep them that way for more than ten minutes?

I usually cleaned it for them. Occassionally I'd have a "mom on the warpath" moment and then they'd have to help me clean the entire house "OR ELSE". I never knew what "or else" was but when mama was that mad they pitched in no questions asked.

i let them know that if it's not cleaned by a specific time - and MY WAY - then 'I' will go thru their room and clean it. i will get rid of things that i deem unnecessary. they learned ONCE that i was serious.

there are times that i give them a time limit to pick up and if it's not done by then, i will take everything i find out of place and they have to do one chore for each item. so for a pair of shoes, they have to do 2 chores - one for each shoe. i get lots of chores done that i despise doing.
