52 Photowalks - Week 23

I've been waiting on posting these pictures because I have more pictures to post that are on another camera. Unfortunately, we can't find the cord to this camera to hook it to the computer, nor will my card reader read the card and as luck would have it, Radio Shack went out of business here in town and I have yet to make it to the big city to find a new cord. So... you are getting what you get (and don't throw a fit).

Last week, I hitched a ride with the awesome husband to Jackson Hole. I try to go there with him a couple of times a year, usually just to take pictures of the Teton's and never for the company (HA! Although, he might agree....). Unfortunately, the sun has forgotten how to shine and it rains all day every day because apparently mother nature has us confused with the Pacific Northwest and driving out to the Tetons would have been a complete waste of time.

So... we went the other direction, to a little hole in the wall called Granite Hot Springs. I'd never heard of such a place until the scouts went there for their high adventure last summer. If you want to find it, just drive to the Hoback Junction, and then take the road to Pinedale. Drive a few miles, I don't really know how many, but take a left onto a really muddy road that looks a bit scary when you are driving a Toyota Camry (and totally without cell service - we wondered how many years it would take us to get home - and dang, I forgot to take a picture of the car when we got home! It was a whole new shade of dirty!).

So take this cute little windy road (which the husband did assure me is much better in the summer) for, oh, I don't know, a few miles, alongside Granite Springs...
Try not to get too intimidated by all the snow on the mountains when you think about where and why you are going...
Watch for deer crossing the road...
And if you are me and not the husband, who swore he'd been there before, you'll notice a great big un-missable waterfall off to the side when you are almost to your destination. He swears he didn't notice that last summer. I think he was just sleep deprived. Camping with scouts will do that to you.
And then... you insert adorably cute pictures of the tiniest little swimming hole you've ever seen... okay, so it's not that tiny, it's bigger than the hotel pool down at the Hampton, but not much. The hot, and I do mean HOT water seeps right out of the side of the mountain and dumps into the pool, which one side of IS the mountain, and the other side is like a real pool thing, with an overflow on the far side that runs the water through and then down into the creek and over the water falls about a half a mile away. Verra cool. Don't expect a fancy parking lot or buildings... you part a couple hundred yards up the hill, hike down to it, cross the cute little bridge, and there's a tiny little building with two little dressing rooms and an outhouse. The best part is... because it's so far from civilization, it's just not that busy. Verra cool, indeed.

Water was perfect. Company was even better. A good soak in a hot pool for a couple of hours was all I needed to wash away all the stress in life. At least for a day. The rain that fell didn't bother me, in fact, it felt nice. The cool walk through the mud back to car in about 45 degree weather, didn't bother me either (and I thought for sure I'd freeze to death). Could have been the company, though...

And then, we headed back to civilization. Which could hardly be called civilization considering we'd left our kids home all day and it looked like a small bomb had gone off in our house....

Thanks for the drive, awesome husband. I can't wait to do it again... and I think we should do this every week. Enjoy the rest of my photowalk...

Baby moose are just as ugly as....
their mothers...
No idea why they would call this place "Red Rock" - or something like that... I wasn't really paying attention...
Next weeks photowalk? A little bit closer to home...

Are you photowalking this year? Leave a comment if you are... I'll check it out.
