You capture - LETTERS {updated with the answer}

Today, while I was out passin the time touring the neighborhood, I looked across the valley and saw the perfect "letter" for this weeks "you capture". The "R" on the mountain!

Raise your hand if you know where this is!

{updated} -I've never had SO many people inquire as to where a picture was taken! Ha ha! I didn't mean to be so sneaky, I figured someone out there besides my friends and family would surely know where this is, but I will tell you.

I don't know where the tradition ever came from, but all along the wasatch front (in Utah), there are letters painted on the mountains, such as a "Y" in Provo for "Brigham Young University" and a "B" in Brigham City (though I was told once it actually stood for Box Elder). And if you go a little further north into Idaho, you'll find an "R" on the mountain which could stand for the name of the town it's technically part of, but I think it actually stands for the name of the local college that has since changed names. Because of the school's name change several years ago, nobody does the upkeep on the letter anymore and one of these days, it will probably fade away. Driving around just won't be the same without seeing the "R" on the butte (which is actually an old volcano). So next time you decide to drive up to Yellowstone through SE Idaho, or perhaps along the Wasatch front in Utah, be sure to look for the letters on the mountain.

I had this same thought...but unfortunately every time I thought of it, it was dark, or the kids were in bed, or something came up!

Ooh ooh pick me, pick me! I know! But I won't say because this is your public blog and you're probably flying under the radar. It's in a really cold place where I spent a couple of very happy years. =)
