A night at the Emma's

A few weeks ago, we had our Young Womens in Excellence program. I wasn't in on any of the planning, just the decorating, but it was such a neat idea, I had to share it.

The theme was "a night at the Emma's" and we had the gym decorated complete with a star lined red carpet and everything. The girls dressed in their Sunday best or formal gowns if they had one. The guest speaker was a local lady who'd just returned from a mission to Nauvoo and she told us Emma's life story from a first person point of view. It was very interesting and I learned things about Emma I did not know, such as she remarried so that she could have a "male" person sign documents and such since women weren't allowed to own any property or anything. In fact, she had to put most of her property in her infant sons name (before she married). I did not know that!

After the speaker, we opened one sealed envelope at a time, awarding each girl for their time spent this year working on their value experiences. Their emma's were actually resin statues purchased at the dollar store and painted gold (how cute are they?).

The girls had a lot of fun and it turned out to be a really nice evening!

Tonight, for YW's, we are playing Cash Cab... it should be really fun, too. There are some REALLY creative people out there for which I am truly grateful, because I am not very creative! Luckily, I don't have to do any of the planning anyway... just the participating.

I wish I were that creative!

Neat info about the real Emma - how cool is that!
