When Ishee was in kindergarten, she became best buddies with one of the cutest little girls I've ever seen. She was just adorable. And I was, of coarse, just pleased as punch with their friendship.
The one day, midway through the school year, best friend announced they were moving. Ishee was distraught. Her first and very bestest friend in the whole world was leaving. She cried. She cried even more when we awoke on her friends last day of school, and school was cancelled due to freeze your butt of temperatures and she never got to say goodbye.
I consoled her and reassured her that next year she'd have a new best friend. She does... but it's not the same. Not in any way shape or form, mainly because new best friend is not cute or adorable, in fact, she is a bit of a pain in the donkey. When I met her, I cried and reassured myself that next year she'd have a new best friend. Oh, how I missed cute and adorable old best friend.
I'm reminded of old best friend on a weekly basis as Ishee still talks about her regularly. Her last observation about old best friend took place three days ago when she said "it sure is hard to let go of somebody when they move away. I sure do miss old best friend!" *sniff*
She's been gone almost a year and a half.
Today, we were sitting in church when this adorable new family walks in. The adorable daughter looked right at Ishee, waved and said "HI!" I asked Ishee who adorable little girl was. "I don't know, but she looks JUST LIKE old best friend!" She was so anxious for the meeting to end, she must have asked a jillion times if the speakers were ever going to sit down. It's been a long time since she wore me out like that in church. No wonder I have a headache!
Guess what? It WAS and IS old best friend, as they are now the newest members of our ward. I don't know who was happier ... me or Ishee. Who could ever ask for a better mothers day than seeing the smile on her little girls face as she rekindles her most treasured friendship?
Do you remember your first best friend? Do you still keep in contact with any of those old friends?
