A fate worse than death?

Sunday is Easter. Tomorrow begins our short spring break. That meant that today was the day for any school Easter celebrations. When the teacher sent out a note asking for parents to volunteer to come and decorate Easter eggs today, Ishee didn't bother to ask first, she just volunteered me. That was okay. Instead of going in at 8:15 like I normally do on Wednesdays, I'd sleep in and come in at 12:00.

Or 11:30.

See mom, since you are already coming in at 12:00, you might as well just come at 11:30 and have lunch with me. Better yet, come at 11:20, just in case we go early. Or maybe even 11:00 just to be extra safe. How about I just ride the bus with you before school? Well, I don't think the bus driver would like that. Maybe I'll just call and remind you, just in case you try to forget?

What a huge sigh of relief for the teacher when she saw me pull in. WHEW! Now that girl will quit asking what time it is and if her mom's here yet and if she can call to remind her to come.

Lunch was... school lunch. We had Italian Dunkers which was breadsticks dipped in spaghetti sauce, mandarin oranges, green beans, and a graham cracker with frosting, all served on a cute little tray with a plastic spoon. The breadsticks were quite tasty (my mom was a lunch lady, I grew up eating school lunch for two meals a day some days), and I must admit, I did enjoy the chocolate milk.

The conversation was exciting, basically consisting of two of my favorite classmates, Jaxson and Dayne telling me about the girls they refer to as the "Kissies" who chase them and try to kiss them (my daughter is not a "kissie"). To this day, they've yet to be caught, and they were so proud of that! Ishee didn't have a lot to say other than "I can't believe I got all excited for this. You're boring, mom." She had more fun watching the little girl across from us stuff the remainder of her lunch in her chocolate milk bottle.

(pictures compliments of my cell phone... no word on the fate of my camera yet)

All in all... I thought for sure the day would be a fate worse than death, but it turns out, it wasn't as bad as I dreamt it would be. I do that on purpose... imagine the worst, simply so it turns out better than I expect it will. Plus, I got to briefly chat with my old friend Deana, my neighbor Elaine, and my cousin Rosalee.

My fingers are green from egg dye and still caked with a thin layer of glue stick and cotton ball, but at least I can cross "eat school lunch just one more time" off my list of "things I must do before I die." One of these days I should get adventurous and have lunch with the fifth grader. Maybe...

sorry the lunch was so ... unnecessary. :) But so sweet that your daughter is so admiring of her mother. You are lucky to have such a relationship where she wants you to see her every experience. haha Sorry for the sticky fingers!

You deserve mother of the week for the great job of eating lunch with the cute one. Next time don't be so boring.

Glad it went better than expected. Sounds better than a root canal to me. ;o) You're such a good mom! And she is just a DOLL!

School Lunch, eh? We 'get' to do that twice a year along with the book fair. (I bring my OWN lunch, thank you very much!)

Is this public school, and still allowed to have an 'Easter' party? That's a surprise. We only ever get to have 'holiday' parties!
